Late payment & disconnection

What Happens When a Cobb County Water Bill Is Past Due?

DUE DATE PASSES Current balance unpaid
10 DAYS AFTER DUE DATE $10 late fee
DELINQUENT ACCOUNT Subject to disconnection

Cobb Water’s current delinquency guidance states that if the current balance remains unpaid 10 days after the bill due date, the account becomes delinquent and a $10 late fee is assessed.

Late Fee $10
Dispatched Delinquent Processing Fee $50
Returned Payment $30
Same-Day Restoration Deadline Before 3 p.m.

How service restoration works

  1. 1

    Pay the full past-due balance

Partial payment does not satisfy the County’s published restoration requirement.

  2. 2

    Pay the $50 processing fee

A deposit can also apply when required for the account.

  3. 3

    Pay before 3 p.m. for same-day restoration

Payments after 3 p.m. are scheduled for restoration the next business day under current guidance.

  4. 4

No call is normally required after full online payment

Cobb says restore orders are generated automatically after the required full balance and processing fee are received.

Two returned payments can restrict future payment methods.

Cobb’s current delinquency policy states that after two returned payments, the account is required to pay by cash or money order for one year.

13

Unexpected high bill

Apply for a Cobb County Water Leak Credit

Cobb Water provides a partial leak credit for eligible repaired leaks. It is designed to reduce part of the unusual water/sewer cost—not erase the full bill.

HOW OFTEN? Once per rolling 12 months
MAXIMUM PERIOD 2 affected months
WHILE PENDING Bill remains payable

Prepare these items

  • Service address and account number
  • Brief explanation of the leak
  • Plumber’s repair receipt or parts receipt
  • Repair explanation letter when a traditional receipt is unavailable
  • Pool volume for qualifying pool-leak claims
Apply inside CSS.

Cobb Water directs customers to log into the Customer Self-Service Portal and submit the leak-adjustment request online.

14

Before disputing usage

High Cobb Water Bill? Check the Meter First

01

Check the 13-month graph

A sudden usage spike can indicate a leak if household water habits have not changed.

02

Compare your meter

The current meter reading should be equal to or greater than the end reading on the latest bill.

03

Watch the leak indicator

If the arrow or triangle moves while all water use is off, water may still be flowing somewhere.

04

Use a one-hour test

Turn off all water, record the meter, wait an hour without using water and check it again.

BEFORE METER County-side issue

A leak before the meter should not normally affect billed consumption and is generally a Cobb Water repair responsibility.

AFTER METER Property-owner plumbing

Leaks after the meter are generally the property owner’s responsibility.

Editorial verification standard

This guide distinguishes the full CSS account-management portal from QuickPay so users do not create an account when they only need a one-time payment. Registration instructions use the County’s current 9-digit account-number and activation-token system.

Rates shown here use the Cobb County Water System schedule effective June 1, 2026. Delinquency, processing and restoration information is based on the current Cobb Water delinquency guidance. Always verify the amount currently displayed in your CSS account before making a time-sensitive payment.
