Customers in the work area were advised that temporary outages or low water pressure could occur. The Town estimated approximately four hours for the tie-in.

No water or low pressure
Jonesborough Water Outage Troubleshooting
A loss of water does not always mean the entire Jonesborough system is down. Use this sequence before assuming there is a regional outage.
-
1
Check more than one fixture
Test a cold-water faucet in another part of the building. A single fixture can have a localized plumbing problem.
-
2
Ask whether nearby properties are affected
If several neighbors have no water or low pressure, a public distribution-line issue becomes more likely.
-
3
Check current Town announcements
Look for a planned tie-in, main repair, outage or water-quality notice affecting your road.
-
4
Confirm your account is active
If only your property is affected, verify that service was not disconnected for non-payment or at the account holder’s request.
-
5
Report the problem
Call Utilities Dispatch at 423-753-1009 during normal working hours or the Water Department at 423-753-1040.
Temporary air or discoloration can occur when water service is restored after distribution work. The Town’s June 2026 tie-in notice advised customers to run cold water for several minutes if that occurred.
Health precaution
What to Do During a Jonesborough Boil-Water Notice
A Jonesborough boil advisory can be limited to specific roads, zones or customers who lost pressure. Do not assume the entire regional system is under the same advisory.
Jonesborough’s prior emergency guidance
During prior Town-issued boil advisories, affected customers were instructed to bring water to a boil and keep it boiling for three minutes, then allow it to cool before use. Bottled water was another option.
- Drinking
- Making ice
- Brushing teeth
- Food preparation
- Washing dishes
- Other consumption uses
The three-minute instruction above reflects prior Jonesborough emergency notices. If a new 2026 notice is issued, follow the exact instructions, affected-area list and rescission notice published for that event.
How a boil notice normally ends
If your address is under an active boil notice, wait until the Town communicates that the notice has been lifted.
Leaks & system problems
How to Report a Jonesborough Water Leak
Possible Town Water-Line Problem
- Water flowing from roadway
- Water bubbling from ground near public line
- Multiple properties losing pressure
- Hydrant or valve problem
- Sudden neighborhood outage
Possible Private Plumbing Leak
- Only your property has high usage
- Meter moves when everything is off
- Leak is downstream of the meter
- Toilet, faucet or irrigation leak
- Private service line after meter
The Town states that the meter and service line from the water transmission line to the meter belong to the Jonesborough Water Department. Problems on the customer line leaving the meter are generally the property owner’s responsibility.
Simple leak test
-
1
Turn off water use
Make sure faucets, toilets, appliances and irrigation are not intentionally using water.
-
2
Look at the meter
Observe whether the meter continues registering usage.
-
3
If it still moves, investigate
The Town advises that continued movement with everything off can indicate a leak somewhere on the homeowner side of the meter.
-
